TUTORIAL ON USING WW3 WAVE MODEL

Boaters and especially surfers rely on using wave models to forecast future swells. When I want a heads up to when the surf's up, I use the WaveWatch 3.  Have you ever wondered how the model is configured or initialized? What about freak waves, wave fronts, and swell periods?  A new tutorial is out which explains how to make the most of the tool.  It is produced  by the brilliant scientists at NCAR. There is much more to just looking at pretty colors.

This 1.5-hour webcast features Dr. Hendrik Tolman. He discusses what WAVEWATCH 3 can and cannot predict along with the model physics, numerics, and forecast products.  Numerous examples illustrate the practical effects of several recent model improvements including  high-resolution hurricane winds, surf zone physics, wave partitioning, use of a multi-grid mosaic, and a new wave forecast ensemble. Check out his tutorial and you will know how to forecast when the next swell will hit.  See you in the water!
