Even though I am a meteorologist with Certification from the American Meteorological Society, I am no climate expert. In fact there are very few if any television meteorologists who are experts in long term weather patterns. Climate is very different than weather. Weather is what we get or see and feel, and climate is what type of weather can be expected over time. But what we expect is up for debate and climate change is the hot topic.
My opinion on global warming is based on thousands of climate researchers who have been looking at this issue for over 30 years while collecting data and presenting results in a peer reviewed community. I accept science and not spin. In order to take an educated position in global warming one must steer away from talk show pundants, politically motivated speakers, and backyard scientists.
Climate is a complicated discipline of atmospheric study that incorporates cloud microphysics, global climate modeling, paleoclimatology, solar physics, glaciology, or oceanography. I don't know of any broadcast meteorologists with this background and we are completely focused on weather. This makes me wonder why people would want to take sides on a debate when their information comes from less informed pundants who have no such background. It then makes sense to read what the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says in order to base our opinions from the facts.
