GATOR BOWL CLIMATE RECORD

Jacksonville has been host to the Gator Bowl for 60 years and some games have had wonderful weather and others have been bitter cold. When Texas Tech takes on the University of Virginia New Years Day the kick off temperature will be 60 degrees. This is slightly below what is typical for January first. The average high is 64 with a low of 42.
William Schmitz, a colleague at the Southeast Regional Climate Center, compiled weather data for all the bowl games played in the southeast including the Gator Bowl.
Virginia Tech has played quite well in rain and cold. They won playing the wettest game ever in 2006 when 1.71" inches of rain fell. They also beat Clemson during the coldest night which reached 22 degrees. The warmest game played was in 1974 when Auburn beat Texas during a high of 80. You can see all the climate records for bowl games in the southeast by looking at William's data here.
